About Us
The Department of Law, Legislative and Justice is an important segment of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar and presently located near the Civil Secretariat.
The Hon’ble Minister in charge of the Department of Law, Legislative and Justice is Shri Nabam Tuki, (HCM) who is assisted by Shri J.K. Panggeng, Hon’ble MLA and Parliamentary Secretary and Shri C.P. Mansai as its Secretary.
Amongst other functions allocated to this Department under the Business of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (Allocations) Rules, 1998 and corrected till date, the Department is more importantly engaged in the functions such as: tendering legal advices on variety of issues referred to by various Departments, corporations and autonomous bodies of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and also performing a consultative role in regard to proposals for legislations, framing of statutory rules, regulations, notifications, byelaws and finalizations of important MOUs etc.
This Department is also vested with the responsibility of supervision of Government litigation before all Courts including the Administrative Tribunals for which panels of Government advocates before the Supreme Court, Guwahati High Court at Principal Bench and Itanagar Bench of Guwahati High Court, District and Session Courts, Magistrates Courts in various Districts of the State are constituted from time to time.
The Administration of Justice system in the State is carried out under the Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation.1945.Lately with the requirement of a separate judiciary from the executive as mandated the State Government has initiated separation of judiciary at the following levels.
Civil  Judges(Jr. Division)-5 Courts at Daporijo, Naharlagun, Khonsa, Yingkiong and Tawang
Civil Judges(Sr. Division)/ Chief Judicial Magistrates-5 Courts at Aalo, Itanagar, Roing, Seppa and Ziro

Additional District & Session Couets-3 Courts at Basar, Pasighat and Bomdilla

District & Session Courts -2 Courts at Yupia and Tezu.
A Permanent Bench of the Guwahati High Court has been established at Naharlagun for which the Department is the appropriation head. The Department is also engaged in the supervising and monitoring of the execution of various Plan/Non Plan Schemes of the State and Centrally Sponsored Schemes for up-gradation of judicial infrastructure in the State namely: the High Court Bench and the District Courts which includes: the constructions of court buildings and residential building at different places in the State.
